Thomas W. Mickel, Managing Partner, limits his practice to the areas of Workers' Compensation, Social Security Disability, Personal Injury and Environmental Law. Tom also assists and supervises many of the other practice areas of the firm, including its business practice.

 

Tom was born here in Conway in 1960. He graduated from Conway High School in 1979 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, in 1983. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville in 1986, where he also made the Dean’s List and earned a Meriwether Scholarship.

 

After law school, Tom worked as an in-house corporate attorney for Arkansas Best (now ArcBest) Corporation in Fort Smith, where he handled a variety of legal issues. He has also served as a Staff Attorney and Legal Advisor at the Arkansas Workers' Compensation Commission.  After that, he represented insurance clients in a mid-size Little Rock law firm in the 1990s where he emphasized workers’ compensation claims.  In one role or another, Tom has worked in the area of workers’ compensation since his first year of law school when he clerked for a law firm in Springdale.

 

Tom has argued before the Arkansas Supreme Court and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.  He also has served as local lead counsel for a group of law firms representing over 300 businesses and individuals who were damaged as a result of a major pipeline rupture.

 

Tom is a past chairman of the Conway Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, which helped create a Master Parks Plan for the City of Conway which resulted in the funding and construction of over $30 million in new baseball and softball complexes, extensions of the City’s bike and walking trail system, and acquisition of new land for more general use parks in the City. He is also a member of the Conway Noon Lions Club, he serves as a Trustee of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Arkansas Alpha Alumni Volunteer Corporation, and he serves on the Board of the Conway Housing Authority.

Tom is a member of the Faulkner County and Arkansas Bar Associations (Environmental, Torts and Workers’ Compensation Law Sections). He has maintained a private law practice in Conway for over 15 years working in his practice areas and his career in the corporate, public and private sector spans over four decades.

 

Tom enjoys trout fishing, photography, history and volunteer work in his spare time.
